Lombard’s Labyrinth is a dungeon-crawling board game where you and other Champions descend into a twisting maze of monsters, loot, and peril. Fight terrifying creatures, collect powerful items, and race to be the first to defeat the final boss lurking at the heart of the Labyrinth.
How to Play: Players start in the top left corner and take turns drawing tiles from a bag and placing them adjacent to the room they just exited, gradually building the labyrinth as they explore. Movement is determined by each champion’s Speed stat, which also decides combat order when facing monsters.
Each playable champion has a set number of stat points divided between Attack, Health, and Speed, along with two unique abilities that shape their playstyle.
As you venture deeper into the dungeon, you may uncover a variety of tile types:
Monster Tiles – Defeat monsters to earn rewards. The rarer the monster, the better your odds of receiving powerful items.
Item Tiles – The discovering player immediately gets one free item.
Shop Tiles – Roll for a chance to acquire a random item, or a chance that one of yours gets taken.
Secret Passages – Travel quickly across the board between two of these tiles.
And many more tiles can be discovered within the labyrinth.
To win, players must make their way through the labyrinth, reach the final boss room in the bottom right corner, and defeat the boss.
Each boss has its own unique stats and abilities, just like the champions. However, every boss also possesses a special ability. These abilities affect the rest of the game. After the first player fails to defeat it, this new rule is permanently added for the remainder of the game, and each boss has their own unique rules, increasing the challenge for everyone.
Combat in the game is designed to be simple and fast-paced.
First, compare Speed stats to determine who attacks first. If there’s a tie, monsters and bosses always attack first.
When attacking, roll a D6:
1–3 or 6 – Add the number rolled to your Attack stat, plus any bonuses from swords or items. This total is the damage dealt to that enemy's health stat.
4 or 5 – You miss completely, dealing 0 damage on that roll.
This system creates tense and often hilarious moments. It’s entirely possible for both you and a monster to miss repeatedly—sometimes for five turns straight—building suspense with every roll before someone finally lands a decisive hit.
Lombard’s Labyrinth is designed to keep players at a disadvantage early on. This makes every item feel impactful, allowing for rapid scaling once you gain momentum. Finding the item you’ve been searching for is both powerful and deeply rewarding; while not common, it is possible to win the game without any items at all.
